Ricardo Makyn is photo-journalist with more than two decades of experience and is currently the chief photo editor at The Gleaner where he has been a part of the photography team for more than 15 years. Ricardo has covered several major sports championships including the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Along with 10 Press Association of Jamaica awards for photography, he is also the joint winner of the Inter America Press Association (IAPA) award in 2007 for news coverage.
In this episode, Ricardo discusses Olympic moments through his lens. He speaks about how he developed his interest in photography after working a summer job at a photo studio and studying and being trained in photography via mail when he started in the late 1990s.

Ricardo also speaks about his day to day experience of covering major sporting championships as a photo-journalist for The Gleaner. He shares his favourite moments covering the Jamaican team at two Summer Olympic Games including the 1,2,3 in the 200m at the London 2012 Olympics and Elaine Thompson-Herah’s triumph in the 100m at Rio 2016.
